a creative hub hosting a lifetime of musical exploration, collaboration, and passion

Founded by Darryl Whalen, a dedicated musician based in Seattle. With an extensive background in a wide range of projects, including the bands Numbskull, The Buddy Love Combo, Swank Motel, Baghwan, and The Shivering Denzies, among others.

Originating from Cleveland, Ohio, Darryl has played many esteemed venues such as the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Art Museum, Cleveland Browns Football Stadium, Geauga Lake as well as Live television performances, radio appearances, wedding receptions, intimate living rooms and countless music venues and dive bars.

Darryl’s image graced the cover of the alternative press magazine’s inaugural paid issue in 1986 with his band, Numbskull!

In addition to his unique musical journey, Darryl is the owner of Healthy Painting & Restoration based in Seattle, Washington. Healthy Painting & Restoration began in Cleveland, Ohio in 1978, offering top-tier, health-conscious services for both the puget sound area and beyond.

Outside of playing in various music projects, operating Healthy Painting & Restoration he also enjoys his extensive record collection, discovering new vegan restaurants around Seattle and getting out into nature with his cat Cricket!

Darryl’s bands have had the privilege of sharing the stage with renowned acts like Suicidal Tendencies, Dead Milkmen, Flaming Lips, Scratch Acid, Nancy Sinatra, Exene Cervenka & Lydia lunch, Soul Coughing, Brian Setzer, Scream and many more, although he humbly admits to struggling to recall all of the remarkable opportunities he has experienced.

When Darryl Whalen was a 15-year-old punk kid, the Ramones, The Damned, and the Sex Pistols emerged in the mid-1970s—before the terminology of “punk” or “punk rocker” even existed.

From 1981 to 2001, Darryl not only immersed himself in the music scene but also showcased his talents as a radio and events DJ. He lent his skills to a diverse range of genres, including punk rock, stoner rock, hardcore, metal, lounge, swing and honky tonk, among others, enriching the vibrant music landscape of Cleveland, Ohio.

His contributions to numerous LP’s, 45’s, cassettes, cd’s and underground music magazines solidify his enduring impact.

DARRYL’S BANDS SINCE 1981

There are others that I remember but cannot recall the names, there are also a number of bands that I have forgotten about altogether - this does not mean that they were not great bands, or great experiences. If you are someone that I have done a music project with that is not on this list, please contact me.

Thank you to each and every person that has allowed me to join their project or has participated in any way with these musical projects! Oh, and please forgive me as well
