Throughout Darryl’s life he has felt the pull to create with others in collaboration to bring something to life. Over the years Darryl has been in countless bands and each one of them holds a special place in his heart full of memories, life lessons and good jams! Having contributed his talents to several bands throughout his career, including notable acts such as numbskull, the buddy love combo, swank motel, baghwan, and the shivering denzies, among others. his latest venture, 60 year old punk, represents his most recent creative endeavor.
ORIGINATING FROM CLEVELAND, OHIO, DARRYL HAS GRACED ESTEEMED VENUES SUCH AS THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME, CLEVELAND ART MUSEUM, CLEVELAND BROWNS FOOTBALL STADIUM, GEAUGA LAKE AMUSEMENT PARK, AS WELL AS NUMEROUS DIVE BARS, INTIMATE LIVING ROOMS AND WEDDING RECEPTIONS WIT HIS EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCES FURTHERMORE, HIS MUSICAL PROWESS HAS GARNERED ATTENTION IN THE FORM OF LIVE TELEVISION AND RADIO APPEARANCES.
Darryl’s bands have had the privilege of sharing the stage with renowned acts like suicidal tendencies, dead milkmen, flaming lips, scratch acid, nancy sinatra, exene cervenka & Lydia lunch, soul coughing, brian setzer, scream and many more, although he humbly admits to struggling to recall all of the remarkable opportunities he has experienced.

From 1981 to 2001, Darryl not only immersed himself in the music scene but also showcased his talents as a radio and events dj. he lent his skills to a diverse range of genres, including punk rockm stoner rock, hardcore, metal, lounge, swing and honky tonk, among others, enriching the vibrant music landscape of cleveland, ohio. his contributions to numerous lp’s, 45’s, cassettes, cd’s and underground music magazines solidify his enduring impact.
Darryl’s image graced the cover of the alternative press magazine’s inaugural paid issue in 1986, signifying his influence and recognition within the industry.
IN addition to his remarkable musical journey, darryl is the esteemed founder and owner of a reputable painting and restoration company based in seattle, washington, which he established during his time in cleveland. known as healthy painting & restoration, this business has thrived since 1978, offering top-tier, health-conscious services for both the puget sound area and beyond, further solidifying their reputation for delivering exceptional results.
darryl whalen’s impressive musical legacy, combined with his entrepreneurial endeavors, demonstrates his unwavering dedication to both artistic expression and delivering high-quality services in the realm of painting and restoration. DARRYL WOULD NOT HAVE ACHIEVED MANY OF THESE GOALS OR DREAMS WITHOUT COLLABORATING AND WORKING CLOSELY WITH MANY TALENTED ARTISTS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO HELPED BRING HIS VISIONS TO LIFE. in his precious moments of leisure, you’ll often find darryl indulging in his extensive record collection, immersing himself in the melodies that have shaped his life. he is also an avid explorer of culinary delights, eagerly discovering new VEGAN restaurants around seattle!
